Yes Man/Burn After Reading/2008 B.O. Follow Ups

Counters

Hello,
First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! I can't believe that in less than 10 hours it will be 09'. If you are reading this in 2009, can you believe we're already in 09'. Wow! Where does time go? So on todays blog I will have a double review plus box office follow ups on the biggest 08' movies. So Yes Man is a movie that you will like if you have a certain type of humor. If you like Liar, Liar you will LOVE Yes Man. If you thought it was bad, then you will hate it. It's like an hour and 42 minutes and I liked it. So really the title says it all! He used to say no to every thing and now he says yes. That's it. Not to exciting. It made good bank though. So far it's made $49,798,560 and it was # 5 last week.

As you may or may not know, I just got back from the bahamas. At the hotel there is a movie theatre and I went to see Burn After Reading. Just letting you know that this movie is R and it is solely because of violence. My parents don't have a problem with violence so don't insult them. I just realized that in my last few reviews I've been saving my parent's butts. Haha. Anyways this movies about 2 hours and it has an all-star cast starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Francis McDormad, Tilda Swinton, & John Malkovich. I can't explain the plot but if you want a summary go to the following link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burn_after_reading
My take is that it is potentially the funniest movie I've EVER seen. It's directed by The Cohen Brothers who took home the Oscar last year. I highly suggest this movie.

2008 Box Office Followup:
So I have reviewed 11 films in 08' and here is their box office success. I will be listing their success from #1 to #11.
  1. Madagascar
  2. Twilight
  3. James Bond
  4. 4 Christmases
  5. Bolt
  6. Beverly Hills Chihuahua
  7. High School Musical 3
  8. Burn After Reading
  9. Yes Man
  10. Nick & Nora
  11. Ghost Town
So that is interesting, both a cartoon & a chick flick beat James Bond. See you soon

4 Christmases/Oscar Predictions: Picture

Hello,
First of all Happy Hanukkah! If you're Christian, I don't care! HAPPPY HANUKKAH! I'm sorry that was mean. I don't care if you're Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or any other religion that makes you a gentile. Sorry to exclude anyone. Okay let's review. So I saw Four Christmases like a month ago but forgot to post. So here is me making up so I will throw in volume 1 of my Oscar predictions. Back to reviewing. Sorry for all the procrastination in this review. So this movie is just one where you go home laughing. You know those movies that really aren't that funny but later when you think about it, it's hilarious? It's like that. If you have seen Wedding Crashers you'd know what I'm talking about. Now I know you're wondering how my parents let me see that but we have Showtime. I love premium channels. Okay so it stars Reese Witherspoon & Vince Vaughn. So basically it is about a couple who's parents are both divorced and because they hate dealing with their families they go on vacation. So their flight is cancelled and they have to go house-hopping. So they go Vince's Dad; Reese's Mom; Vince's Mom; Reese's Dad. I will tell you that Reese's mom's "segment" is the funniest overall but Vince's Dad has the best moment. It has done relatively well at the box office with already over 100 million dollars. It is only 4 thousand dollars away from being in the 150 top grossing movies. So that is Four Christmases.

Oscar Predictions:
Today in  my Oscar predictions we will be focusing on the pictures. Both "Best" & "Best Animated".  So let's begin!

Best Picture:
  • Frost/Nixon
  • Burn After Reading
  • The Wrestler
  • Benjamin Button
Best Animated Feature:
  • Bolt
  • Wall-E
  • Madagascar

Bolt/Twilight

Hi friends,
Okay so earlier this week I saw Bolt and I have plenty to say!!!!!!!!!!!!! So it stars Miley Cyrus (you'll live) & John Travolta. It is 96 minutes long. Oh my god why can't these film studios make films round to the nearest ten. Anyways it is an animated film that is remarkably similar to the Truman Show but much happier. It is filled with a shoot-load of hidden adult humor and plenty of humor for the little kids to enjoy. For once Miley Cyrus was a likable character who you don't want to man-slaughter. Okay that was a little much! But you fall in love with all the characters. I understand that some of you have a little too much pride to walk into a Disney movie about a dog and a hamster but if you have kids, great Thanksgiving activity.

So the next movie I saw was Twilight. It stars Robert Pattison & Kristen Stewart. It is exactly 120 minutes long! THANK YOU TWILIGHT! YOU SHOULD SEE THE MOVIE FOR THIS REASON ALONE. Anyways, I loved it. The acting is very impressive especially for a bunch of 17 year olds. It has a lot of passion and devotion which I love. Sometimes I like a movie with a little depth. Anyways if you have a daughter between the ages of 11 and 111 they will most likely be clawing their way into the movies and by the end they will join the 17 million people dreaming about Edward Cullen.

Until Next time,
Erik

James Bond 22

Okay, so its obvious what I saw just by the title. If you have seen it, read this anyways and tell me if you agree. If you haven't here's the review. Okay so it basically has 2 main actors; the biggest part is Daniel Craig's body double. The other main actor is Daniel Craig. It is 105 minutes. Again, if the opening credits were approximately 3 minutes shorter, it would be exactly 100 minutes. These movie companies should really think about me for once. Back to the review. The plot is... well... unexisting. Honestly, I think a 2 year old could have written that script. I mean it might have been difficult to write down about 20 lines and had to divide them between Daniel Craig and (Dame) Judi Dench. Now I love insulting movies but the visual/technical side of the movie was pretty impressive. The action was very well done and just fun to watch. Anyways if you just want to see a movie, it's okay! It is actually almost good. ALMOST. I mean after 21 movies it's pretty damn (it's not that bad of a word) impressive to make it not old. They did what The Simpsons & SNL (until this election season) couldn't. If you want to see a movie at Thanksgiving, I really wouldn't suggest it unless there is really nothing else. I hope everyone has a happy Turkey day and I'm thankful that you all follow this blog. Starting today I am having a formal competition. I need a pen name! I'm getting bored of saying Erik! Give me something better. Anyways comment on the blog and give me suggestions and the winner will be recognized within the first sentence of my next blog.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Erik (pen name)

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Hello,
I hope everyone is enjoying their weeks. Can you believe that in just 1 week is Thanksgiving? Man has this year gone by fast! WOW!!! Anyways let's get to the reviewing. Today I saw Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. It stars the voices of Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pickett Smith, & David Schwimmer. It is 89 minutes long. Yes I know that's annoying, if it had just one more minute it would be an even hour and a half. Sorry, I have very slight O.C.D. Back to the review, it had a mixture of genres into one. It has drama (based on Lion King) provided by Ben Stiller and the voices that portray his parents and uncle. It has romance provided by David Schwimmer & Jada Pickett Smith. Most importantly, it had some great comic relief that was given by no other than Sacha Baron Cohen (who is the person who thought up and portrays Borat). Anyways it is a great film for all families. It has humor that your kids will get but they put in some adult humor for you to enjoy. Actually, I would suggest it even if you do not have children. Even within the first 20 minutes one of the greatest movie lines is thought up of. Anyways go see it if you have the time. It will most likely get the Oscar nomination for Animated Film and would probualy win but I don't think it has a chance with Wall-E. Hopefully see you soon! Have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving and if there are any movies I should see be sure to tell me and before you know it, they will be on the blog. Also, these movies DON'T have to be new. I will also give reviews on DVDs!

Welcome to November

Hey,
This is technically my first non-review blog. At the start of every month I will have a non-review blog just talking about what to expect in the upcoming month! Here are the movies I've taken an interest to:
  • Bolt
  • Twilight
  • 4 Christmases

I hope you enjoy the month. I know the 4th was dissapointing with the election but we'll have to bust through it. I understand everyone is in a state of agony w/ Obama's victory! Until Next Time,

High School Musical 3

Hello,
This week I saw an advanced screening of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. It stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, & Ashley Tisdale. If you're old you probably don't know who this; but they are popular with young people. It's 1 hour and 40 minutes long.

My take:
Okay, so it lived ABOVE its expectations. I did enjoy it. The choreography is actually impressive. The story is a little weak but it isn't terrible. If you have little kids it would be good for them. Honestly, if you are an adult and don't have kids. I wouldn't suggest it. It is good though. That's it! See ya.

The Outsiders

Yes I know its old; but I did just watch The Outsiders. My take. Good. Nothing more. Good. It really disappointed me because it was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. That made me mad because he is probably one of the best film makers of all time but he makes a movie about teenagers fighting. Don't think it's the teenage Godfather. IT'S NOT!!!! The acting was relatively good with the exception of Matt Dillion. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this movie. We were just watching it in school because we read the book. Anyways, I don't see it in movie stores so don't go online and buy it. It's not worth it. But if you see it, get it.

Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist

Welcome to my 2nd Blog. This week I saw Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist. Shall we discuss; lets :) Okay, so it stars Michael Cera & Kat Dennings. It iexactly and hour and a half. Here's my take: HILARIOUS! Very funny. I was frankly expecting a quite boring movie that would drag and drag, but it was fun and I was sad when it was over. It felt kind of like Juno because of them both being independent. For a PG-13 Movie it was a little ronchy, but it was fine. All and all, great movie! Highly suggest it. Family fun for everyone. Okay, it was more of an adult movie but basically if your kid's mature, no problem!!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua/Ghost Town

Hi, I'm Erik :)
This is my first blog post where I will talk about EVERY movie I see. This Will be interesting. Let's start!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua is an interesting movie! It stars Drew Barrymore; Andy Garcia; George Lopez; & Piper Perabo. It's 85 minutes long and is quite weird. The commercials make it look like a cute movie with a great light plot. The plot is actually sort of deep and feels like it lasts forever. It is highly predictable!!!!!!!! The dog gets lost in Mexico. It gets found. It takes forever for the dog to get found. I hope I didn't ruin the movie but you can see it coming. Its only an hour and a half but it feels almost twice as long.

Ghost Town is a movie I personally highly preferred! It stars Ricky Gervais, Tea Leoni, & Greg Kinnear. It's 1 hour & 42 minutes. It is about a guy who sees dead people. He isn't like the kid from 6th sense. The point is that they get on his nerves! It has all elements of a "Erik's Thumb Up" It has humor, drama, and makes you curious. I highly suggest it. Maybe one of the best I've seen in a while!
